Attention all junior Space Rangers! One of Magic Kingdom’s most beloved attractions is getting a galactic glow-up in 2025, and we couldn’t be more excited. Disney just announced that Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will be undergoing some out-of-this-world updates — and trust me, you’re going to want to make room in your next itinerary to check it out!

Here’s what’s launching next year:

Meet “Buddy,” Your New Mission Pal

As your interstellar journey begins, you’ll now be welcomed by a brand-new character named Buddy! This adorable, high-energy support robot was created by Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar Animation Studios to help Space Rangers get ready for their mission. Buddy will offer encouragement, perform Star Cruiser system checks, and give you a chance to test your aim before you set off to take down the Evil Emperor Zurg.

Sleek New Star Cruisers

Your trusty ride vehicles (aka Star Cruisers) are getting a serious upgrade. Expect a fresh look inspired by Buzz Lightyear and Star Command, complete with onboard video monitors that show real-time scoring and special updates throughout your adventure.

Say Hello to Handheld Blasters

Goodbye to those fixed blasters and hello to handheld, always-on laser blasters! Not only do they allow for much better aim (finally!), but they also come with color customization, vibration, sound, and lighting effects. It’s a big win for younger Space Rangers and competitive adults alike.

All-New Interactive Targets

Imagineers are also giving those classic “Z” targets a tech-savvy refresh. The new interactive versions will light up and react when hit, making the gameplay even more immersive and exciting. These enhancements have already gone through live playtesting, and the feedback has been stellar.

“Everyone had a great time, and our team learned a lot,” said project creative director Justin DeTolla. “It was exciting to see it all come to life for the first time in the field.”

Temporary Closure in August

To make all these magical changes, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will temporarily close in August 2025. But don’t worry — it’ll reopen in 2026 with all the new features ready for blast-off!

Whether you’re a seasoned Space Ranger or heading to infinity and beyond for the first time, this reimagining is sure to elevate your next Magic Kingdom visit.
